New London Orchestra

As Artistic Director of the New London Orchestra, Ronald Corp has always been passionate about education. A major reason for founding the Orchestra in 1988 was to programme 20th century music which is rarely heard in concert, and to present the concerts from the stage in such a way as to engage new audiences. The Orchestra's education programme prmootes music-making in schools and offers a range of new opportunities to children from all backgrounds to participate. Other special projects by the Orchestra (such as the 'Music and the Mind' festival in 2003) have sought to bring together the worlds of science and music in innovative new collaborations.

British Light Music Classics

Ronald Corp's 4 volumes of recordings on Hyperion of British Light Music Classics have revitalised interst in this area of the repertoire that was for decades unplayed and unrecorded, even if some of the tunes are firmly lodged in the public conscuiousness (for example, volume 1 includes Barwick Green, the fourth movement in a suite, My Native Heath, by Arthur Wood which has been the signature tune to ‘The Archers’ for nearly 60 years!

Martinů

Ronald Corp was largely responsbile for generating interest in the music of Martinu by programming it in every New London Orchestra concert from 1988 to 1990 (his centenary). Now that Martinu is a popular and widely performed composer, Corp has tuned his attention to other neglected composers such as Polish composer Grazyna Bacewicz, a CD of whose music the New London Orchestra will release on Hyerion in 2009.

Workshops

In addition to his involvement in workshops as part of the New London Orchestra's education and community programme, he also delivers many choral workshops in schools and with adult choirs and groups, inspiring people and bringing them together through music.

Musicians Benevolent Fund

Ronald Corp is a trustee and Chair of the Education Committee of the MBF which makes grants each year to young talented instrumentalists and singers.
