Programme Notes

The words of the Two Partsongs reflect the context of their commission in 1997 as memorial works for Jo Klein. 'Heraclitus' is by William Cory, 'I Strove with None' by Walter Savage Landor, the first bringing news of the death of a dear friend, the second expressing the poet's readiness to depart this life. They were performed by a small ad-hoc choir with string quartet accompaniment, but can essentially be performed a cappella.
