Ronald Corp and the New London Orchestra in Cadogan Hall, Chelsea, London in November, 2006
The New London Orchestra has carved a niche in London's music scene with distinctive concert programming and a legacy of recordings of rarely-heard music. Since the start of the 2011-12 concert season, the New London Orchestra has become the first-ever orchestra-in-residence at Stratford Circus in the London Borough of Newham.
The orchestra is committed to broadening access to music, either through its education programmes for children and young people, or by programming or recording music that may otherwise be neglected.
The NLO was founded by its Artistic Director Ronald Corp in 1988, and performs in London's major concert halls including the Royal Festival Hall, Cadogan Hall, the Barbican and the Royal Albert Hall, in addition to East London venues which include Stratford Circus, the Theatre Royal, Stratford East and the Stratford Rex.
The Orchestra celebrated their 20th anniversary in 2008 with a gala concert at Cadogan Hall which included a work by the little-known Polish composer, Grażyna Bacewicz, a disc of whose music they went on to record for Hyperion in 2009. For more information on this, click here.
Their recent recording of Rutland Boughton's opera, The Queen of Cornwall, has won accolades as 'Disc of The Month' in Opera magazine, March 2011 and 'Editor's Choice' in Gramophone, September 2011. For more information on their discs, see Recordings.
